Mr. McCarthy graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2001, and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2004. Following law school, Mr. McCarthy practiced with the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office in Frederick, Maryland. During this time, Tom was also employed as a litigation associate with a small general practice law firm in Frederick. In 2006, Mr. McCarthy returned to Alabama and joined the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office as a Circuit Court prosecutor where he tried numerous jury trials as lead counsel. Tom practiced as a criminal prosecutor until 2008. He then joined a Montgomery, Alabama-based civil defense firm, where he practiced civil defense litigation for seven years. Mr. McCarthy’s civil practice is focused primarily on motor vehicle litigation defense, insurance defense, and insurance coverage issues.

Tom is admitted to practice law in both Alabama and Maryland as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama. Mr. McCarthy has tried numerous jury trials in many counties throughout Alabama. He is an active member of the American Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, and the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. Tom has achieved an AV attorney rating as evaluated by Martindale-Hubbell.
